How To: Associate File Extension with FastLook Plus

One of the convenient features in Microsoft® Windows® is the way that Windows handles file associations. Simply open Windows Explorer and double-click on the file name, and Windows will launch the associated program with that file. Many other programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, will also use the Windows Association to launch attachments.

The FastLook Association Tool is designed to make the file associations for you. This utility is shipping with FastLook Plus and will be automatically installed.

Simply follow the steps below to associate a specific file type with your copy of FastLook Plus.

Associate File Extension with FastLook Plus

  1. Running the FL_Assoc.exe located in the FastLook program directory will present the following dialog box.

  2. Choose which file extensions to associate by clicking on the corresponding checkboxes.
  3. If the extension you need is not in the list, simply add the extension in the text box labeled Additional File Types. If you are entering multiple extensions, separate the extensions with commas.
  4. Press OK.

Disassociating a File Extension with FastLook Plus

  1. Run the FL_Assoc.exe.
  2. Deselect the file extension that you wish to dissociate from FastLook Plus.
You will notice that each of the file extensions currently associated with FastLook Plus will come up checked.
  3. Press OK.
